Our second stop is Vergina, where you will visit the most important remains of the monumental palace of the Kingdom of Macedonia, lavishly decorated with mosaics and painted stuccoes, and the burial ground with more than 300 tumuli, some of which date from the 11th century B.C.
An intermediate optional stop in the city of Veria, part of the "footsteps' trail" of St. Paul gives you the chance to have optional lunch.

While your stay in Thessaloniki, take a day tour to the picturesque city of Kastoria, which lies in the western part of Macedonia.
We drive through Egnatia Highway, via Veria and Kozani. Our first stop is in Dispilio, an ancient lake settlement.
We continue towards Kastoria, a traditional city known for the production of fur coats. Time for lunch. We will visit the Byzantine Museum and have the time to walk in the old town and by the lake.

A highlight of your stay in Thessaloniki will be a visit to the Meteora monasteries.
We will travel southbound, before we arrive in the small town of Kalambaka, at the foot of the cliffs. Meteora is a geological miracle which must be actually seen to be believed! We shall visit two of the fabulous monasteries perched high upon the steep rocks. Each monastery possesses a vast richness of frescoes, icons and intricate carvings. We will drive back to Kalambaka to relax and have an optional lunch.

Archaeological site of ancient Dion
This tour will take you to the footsteps of Mt. Olympus; also known as the "home of Gods".
We will first visit Dion, the religious centre of the Macedonians, where the mythical Gods were worshipped. We will then have time for an optional lunch break.
Later on, we will arrive in the village of Litochoro, where we will take a mild guided walk. A chance to breathe the fresh mountain air, admire the natural beauty, whilst walking through unspoiled forest of the Ainipeas Valley.
Returning to Litochoro, we will have the time to enjoy our coffee and visit the picturesque village.

Philippi
Pick up from your hotel and drive to Kavala, following the Egnatia highway, built on the path of the Roman 'Via Egnatia'. Passing by the two lakes of Koroni and Volvi and the village of Asprovalta, we will optionally visit the famous statue of Amphipolis, to visit the Lion statue.
Further you may see the place where St. Lydia was baptised, as well as the archaeological site of Philippi, i.e. the 'Forum Romanum', ruins of the two early Christian Basilicas (the prison where St. Paul was held and preached in 50 AD), as well as the ancient Greek theatre.
Later, we arrive in Kavala, optional stop for lunch. A short tour around the town follows, where you may see the city of Kavala and the port.
Early in the evening, we drive back to Thessaloniki and your hotel.
